Bex Mitchell Law Graduate

Bex Mitchell’s family is from Waterhen Lake First Nation and Germany. They have lived in five different treaty areas growing up. Bex completed a BSc in Physics at the University of Alberta and worked in a bookstore until deciding to pursue law to support their communities. While attending law school at U of A, Bex worked as a Research Assistant at the Wahkohtowin Law & Governance Lodge, contributing to various projects aimed at revitalizing Indigenous legal traditions in child and family well-being through legal research, workshop facilitation, and accessible educational materials. She volunteered with Students Legal Services’ Trans ID Clinic, the Old Strathcona Youth Society, OUTlaw, the Indigenous Law Students’ Association, and served as a tribune for the Students’ Union “court.” Most recently, she was Chair of the Indigenous Law Students’ Association.

Bex also participated in the Kawaskimhon National Moot, and a number of amazing on-the-land experiential courses.

In her last semester, Bex attended the Osgoode Intensive Program in Indigenous Lands, Resources & Governments, completing a placement at First Peoples Law LLP. There, she supported Indigenous Nations through memo writing and providing rights-based analyses on governance issues.

Outside of work Bex loves hanging out with their wife, outdoor activities, playing instruments, and will read almost anything.
