Sarmad Shahjahan BBA (Laurentian University), LLB (University of Dundee) — Law Graduate
Sarmad Shahjahan is a driven and justice-focused individual with a strong academic background in both business and law. He holds a law degree from the University of Dundee in Scotland, UK, which he earned in 2021, following a successful career in accounting. Sarmad’s journey began with a Business Administration diploma from Georgian College in 2010 and a Bachelor’s degree in business with a major in accounting from Laurentian University in 2012. After working in an accounting firm in Ontario, his passion for justice and advocacy inspired him to pursue legal education.
Since moving to Alberta, Sarmad has gained valuable experience in the legal field by volunteering with Pro Bono Law Alberta. Through programs like the KB Amicus Program and the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project, he has shadowed experienced lawyers and assisted self-represented litigants with civil matters in the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench. He has also contributed to restorative justice initiatives, working with the Edmonton Youth Justice Committee Society to provide alternatives to the formal court process for youth and young adults. Additionally, Sarmad supports various non-profit organizations by participating in their fundraising events, demonstrating his commitment to community service.
Sarmad is deeply passionate about upholding the rule of law and making a positive impact in his community. His goal-oriented nature, combined with his empathy and strong work ethic, makes him a dedicated advocate for those he assists. While pursuing his call to the Alberta bar, his legal education and hands-on experience have equipped him with a solid foundation in the field.
Outside of his professional life, Sarmad enjoys spending quality time with his family, assisting his wife with cooking, and embarking on long road trips across Canada and the United States. Sarmad speaks Urdu, and Punjabi.
